    From the Principal

    Dear Families,

It is hard to believe that we have just 3 weeks to go until the end of the school year.  I don’t know about you but the days just seem to pass by and before I know it another week is over.

As the end of the school year rapidly approaches, students and teachers are beginning to wind down and prepare for a well-deserved break. The anticipation of the Christmas holidays is tangible, and everyone is looking forward to some rest and relaxation. Final assessments and reports cards are being completed, and there is a sense of accomplishment in the air. This time of year also brings reflection on memories made and lessons learned. Over the coming weeks we have plenty of time to reflect on the year that was. We hope that you can join us for some of the important events in our school community over the next 3 weeks.

We have our final Youth Mass this Sunday at 5:30pm. It would be great to see as many families attending as possible. We have the CWL Christmas Luncheon, Webber Shield, Thanksgiving Mass and Volunteer Thank You Lunch all happening next week. We invite all our families to join us for our Thanksgiving Mass on Friday at 9am. This is a wonderful occasion where we give thanks for the many blessings that have been bestowed upon us in 2024.

In Week 9 we have our Casual Day for St Vincent de Paul where we ask each student to bring in a non-perishable food item. We also have our Year 6 students attending their Transition Days. Our final week (Week 10) is perhaps the busiest of them all with Step Up Morning, Year 6 Graduation, Awards Morning, our Christmas Concert and Final Farewell.

Despite all these events on our calendar, students are still working hard in their classrooms. Once assessment is completed, teachers will be revising concepts that were taught throughout the year and our Year 2, 4 and 6 students will begin NAPLAN preparation. There will be significant learning happening right up to school finishing on December 6th. Students are expected to be maintaining high levels of behaviour and a positive work ethic right up to the final bell on the last day of school and teachers will be ensuring that these high expectations are being upheld.

As is the case throughout the Burdekin at the moment, we have had a few mozzies around the school over the past week or so. It would be a great idea to pop some mozzie spray on your child/ren before they come to school if they are prone to being bitten.

    Have a wonderful week

    Take care and God Bless

    Amanda

    Religious Life of the School

    Dear families,

We began our week with a meaningful Remembrance Day Liturgy, beautifully led by 6A. It was a special moment for us to come together and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. This gesture of selfless love reflects the words of Jesus in his Commandment of Love:

“This is my command: Love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

    — John 15:12-13

    YOUTH MASS
Our final Youth Mass of the year will be held this Sunday at Sacred Heart Church at 5:30 PM. We warmly invite everyone to join us for this special celebration of Mass with our Burdekin Parish Community. It will be a wonderful opportunity to come together in faith, fellowship, and prayer. We look forward to seeing you there and celebrating this special occasion with all of you.

    CWL LUNCHEON

The CWL Christmas Luncheon is just around the corner, taking place on 15th November. A heartfelt thank you to all the Year 6 parents who have kindly volunteered their time and generously donated food for this special event. Our Year 6 students are excited about the opportunity to serve our CWL ladies, engage in meaningful conversations, and share in the joy of the occasion. It promises to be a wonderful afternoon of fellowship and celebration. We truly appreciate everyone’s support in making this event a success.

A reminder that all food donations can be dropped off at the Parish Hall on Wednesday morning from 8 am. We will have an oven available for reheating and plenty of fridge space. Please ensure that all containers are clearly labeled so we can return them to their rightful owners.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL CHRISTMAS HAMPER

Each year, we come together as a school community to donate Christmas goodies to St Vincent de Paul, which will distribute them to those in need within our local community. We kindly ask that all students begin collecting non-perishable items for the Christmas Hampers. When each of us contributes just a little, we end up with a large and meaningful donation to help those who are less fortunate during the festive season.

To encourage participation, we will be hosting a Casual Day on Tuesday, 26th November. The contribution for participation will be a donation of a non-perishable item for a Christmas Hamper. Please remember, that only non-perishable items are acceptable (no fresh or refrigerated goods).

We truly appreciate your generosity and support in making this initiative a success and spreading some holiday cheer to those who need it most. Thank you in advance for your kindness.

    THANKSGIVING MASS

Next Friday, 22 November, we will be celebrating our Whole School Thanksgiving Mass in the Samaritan Hall at 9:00 AM. Please mark this important date on your calendar and join us as we come together to reflect on the many blessings of the past year. It will be a special time to express our gratitude for all the positive experiences and achievements we’ve shared as a school community. We look forward to celebrating with you.

    PRAYER

    Lord our God,
Let there be peace in the world,
Teach us to trust one another so we can share
our problems as well as our joys.
Teach us to care about one another and
     understand each other.
Teach world leaders to respect all people,
     especially their own.
Help us to make peace wherever we are and to do
our small bit to bring peace to the world.
We ask this in Jesus’ name.
     Amen

God bless and have a wonderful week,

    Maria

Class in the Spotlight - PA

This week in Prep A, we have been practising our addition and subtraction skills. Each morning, we have also been focusing on writing in our lined books to prepare for Year 1. In HASS, we have been learning about various celebrations. Students selected a celebration and created a symbol representing it. For show and tell this week, it was free choice, and we had the pleasure of a special visitor who brought along some adorable guinea pigs to join us.
