Term 2 Week 4 2025
From the Principal
Dear Families and Friends,
It was a week of celebrations and we are incredibly proud of all our classes for their participation in this year’s Eisteddfod. Throughout the week, our students showcased their talents, teamwork, and school spirit—and their efforts were truly rewarded. We achieved an outstanding result with 24 awards across the week!
A special highlight was having the wonderful Marianne Rigby as our adjudicator. Not only did she offer thoughtful and encouraging feedback, but she also generously ran mini workshops that enriched the experience for both students and staff. It was an unforgettable week filled with creativity, growth, and joy. Congratulations to everyone involved!
We also held our first Parent Information Session, with a focus on Body Image. While it was a small group in attendance, the conversations were meaningful and insightful. Felicity Griggs, our Guidance Counsellor and session presenter, shared the importance of “flipping the script” when we talk about body image—encouraging more positive and compassionate conversations around this important topic.
It was an enlightening session, and we hope to see even more families take part in these valuable opportunities throughout the year.
Our Project Compassion, held in term 1 also saw an impressive highlight with just over $1200 donated to Caritas to support families and communities most in need to build sustainable futures. Thank you to our amazing families for showing our children how we follow the PATH by Helping our Neighbours.
God bless,
Lisa Fitzsimmons
Religious Life of the School
Dear families,
I hope all our wonderful mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures felt truly loved and appreciated on Sunday. It was a special opportunity to pause, give thanks, and celebrate the incredible role they play in our families and community. As we continue journeying through the Easter season, may we carry that same spirit of love and gratitude into the week ahead.

We celebrate the election of our new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, with great joy and renewed hope for our Church. Known for his deep compassion, commitment to justice, and focus on bringing people together, Pope Leo XIV is already inspiring Catholics around the world. His message of faith, humility, and love reminds us of the values we strive to live each day in our school community. As we keep Pope Leo XIV in our prayers, we look forward to learning more about his vision for the Church and how we can follow his example in being people of kindness, courage, and faith.
At Assembly this week, our Year 4/5A class introduced us to our new Pope, Leo XIV. They shared some interesting facts about his life and explained how a new Pope is chosen. Thank you to the class for helping us learn more about this special time in our Church.

CWL Mother’s Day Breakfast
A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful school captains, their mothers and their grandmothers for joining the Catholic Women's League Mother’s Day Breakfast on Saturday. We’re especially grateful for the early start they made to be there and represent our school with such warmth and pride. It was a beautiful morning filled with joyful conversation, entertainment, inspiring guest speakers, delicious food, and a thoughtful reflection shared by our captains. Moments like these truly highlight the strength of our community and the special bond between generations.

We have our first Youth Mass this Sunday 18th May at Sacred Heart Church at 5.30pm
This Sunday is the Fifth Sunday of Easter, a special time in our Church calendar when we continue to celebrate the joy of Jesus’ resurrection. In the Gospel this week, Jesus reminds us of the importance of love — encouraging us to love one another just as He loves us. It’s a beautiful message for families and our whole school community.
We warmly invite all parents and students to join us for Mass this Sunday at 5.30pm as we come together to celebrate and grow in faith. It’s a wonderful opportunity to pray as a community, give thanks, and reflect on how we can share Christ’s love in our everyday lives.

LEARNING and TEACHING
Every minute counts!

Have you ever:
Been part of a group conversation when you had to leave for a few minutes only to find on your return that the conversation had changed and it has taken you a few more minutes to identify the topic and be able to rejoin the conversation.

Now imagine if the setting was a child in a classroom. When a child leaves a classroom at a time when learning is being guided, they lose the flow of the learning that is happening. When they return, they are either confused by the step in the learning process the class has reached during their absence or the topic and activity have changed and they missed the introduction to the topic.
Although it is explained to them, they have missed the interaction of instructions, questions and answers that set the foundation for the learning. They will follow along with peers and even though the task will be completed, engagement and learning have been missed. Learning is sequential and links to what was taught already. If sections of the learning sequence are missed learning becomes extremely difficult. If their presence in class is inconsistent so is their learning and this will be reflected in their results.
When regular student absences are known beforehand, teachers rearrange the timetable in consultation with parents to ensure that the teaching is not missed during that time or it is the same subject missed and parents know the assessment of that subject will be compromised. When there are several children in the same class the flexibility to rearrange timetables becomes limited.
Regular attendance promotes learning. If you do have any concerns about your child’s/children’s attendance please see your child’s/children’s teacher/teachers.
DOES YOUR CHILD ENJOY DRAWING?
This week, your child in P-6 would have brought home some information about a Farm Safety Calendar competition. This competition aims to promote farm safety awareness through student artwork. In the past, we have had the drawings of some of our students included in this calendar. This is an excellent opportunity for your child to share their drawing talent and contribute to a meaningful cause.

PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE - How many books has your child experienced OR read so far?
The PRC is not a competition but a way to encourage students to develop a love of reading for life. Students are encouraged to select a range of fiction and non-fiction books suited to their reading ability and record books read during the reading period, from 6 May to 22 August.
To complete the challenge:
- Prep to Year 2 must read or experience at least 20 books
- Years 3 and 4 must read at least 20 books
- Years 5 to 9 must read at least 15 books.
Experiencing books can include shared reading, listening to stories, or reading picture books. The aim of the 2025 challenge is to encourage students to make time to read. Last year, more than 216,000 children from around the state participated.
Key dates | Activity |
6 May – 22 August | Reading period for Prep to Year 9 students |
25 August | Student reader record forms submitted to teacher |
3 – 14 November | Premier's Reading Challenge Celebration Weeks |
A list of suggested books can be found here.
Remember, shared reading at home is a powerful tool for your child's learning. Keep up the good work!

Class in the Spotlight - 1A
Excitement was in the air as our talented students took to the stage for the Eisteddfod! With proud hearts and big smiles, we walked away with 2nd and 3rd place in the singing section and delivered a confident, enthusiastic performance of our poem. 🌟👏 Everyone shone brightly and should be incredibly proud of their hard work and courage!
📚 In English, we dove into the shimmering world of The Rainbow Fish. We brought the story to life through drawings and sentences, explored character and setting, sequenced events, and added some fancy new descriptive words to our writing toolkit! 🐠🎨✍️
🔢 Over in Maths, it was all about patterns and data! We got hands-on and creative with patterned socks, colorful block designs, eye-colour surveys, and eye-catching pictographs. It was a bright and engaging way to learn—and the results were as fun as they were informative! 🧦📊🌈
