Term 3 Week 1 2025
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to what promises to be an exciting and meaningful Term 3! We hope your family enjoyed a restful holiday break and are ready to embrace the opportunities and events ahead. As always, we begin this term rooted in our shared faith, guided by the teachings of Christ, and focused on the holistic development of every student.
Our PATH reflects this and we revisit the importance of how we follow the PATH at St Francis - Persist with Learning; Act Safely; Treat all with Respect and Help your Neighbour.
This week our Preps celebrated 100 days brighter in the most colourful of ways. It was wonderful to see so many families come along and enjoy seeing their little ones playing and enjoying the amazing activities set up by our Prep teachers.
Another special celebration coming up is with our Sacred Heart Church celebrating 100 years! We look forward to the opportunity to celebrate this momentous occasion and enjoy coming together for a meal in our Samaritan Hall with other parish members. We hope you have the chance to come along too
God Bless,
Lisa Fitzsimmons

Welcome back!
I hope you had a restful and refreshing break. As we begin Term 3, we look forward to the many opportunities this term brings. Catholic Education Week in Week 3 will be a key highlight, along with many special Masses and liturgies planned throughout the term.
Sacred Heart Church – 100 Year Celebration
Next weekend, on Sunday 27th July, we celebrate a very special milestone – 100 years of the Sacred Heart Church. Bishop Tim will celebrate a 9am Mass, followed by a community lunch in the Samaritan Hall. We would love to see as many of our students and their families as possible join us in marking this significant occasion with our parish community.
From 1:00pm, there will be a Cent Sale with fabulous prizes to be won. Even if you can’t attend the lunch, you’re very welcome to come along to the Cent Sale and be part of the fun!
We are also asking for parent helpers to assist with serving drinks during the event. Help is needed between 10:15am and 2:00pm. If you’re able to lend a hand, even for just half an hour, please let me know or notify the office staff.
There is also a Centenary Raffle with great prizes. Tickets are $2. If you would like to buy a ticket, please see the ladies in the School Office.
Let’s come together to celebrate this joyful moment in the life of our parish.

Welcome to the Catholic Community, Miss Emily Parsons
During the holidays, Miss Emily Parsons became a fully initiated member of our Catholic community. After journeying through the RCIA program, Emily was baptised, confirmed, and received her First Holy Communion at a beautiful Parish Mass on Thursday, 3rd July.
It was a truly special and sacred occasion, and we were proud that our St Francis staff family could be there to witness and support her. This moment marks not only a personal step in faith for Emily but also a joyful milestone for our school and parish community.
Congratulations, Emily – we are blessed to walk this faith journey with you.

Help us to work together in faith and love, growing closer to You each day.
May this term be filled with learning, laughter, and new opportunities.
Be with us in all we do.
Amen.

LEARNING and TEACHING
Every minute counts!

Welcome back to Term 3, a term filled with activities and opportunities for both academic and personal growth. For teachers, the first semester was one of professional growth, involving upskilling with the implementation of PLD in P-6, administering the DIBELS Reading Assessment, and meeting the most challenging change: the need for paperless records of student assessments.
When folios went home, you would have seen the assessment tasks completed by your child. The assessment tasks are informative if you are seeking to help your child, as they allow you to easily see their successes and challenges.
Their knowledge, understanding, skill, and application, as demonstrated on each assessment task, are recorded in their own individual digital, subject-specific Standard Elaborations document. This document shows their overall level of achievement and is used to allocate the overall grade for that subject.
As this is a new practice for us, we are interested in your feedback, which will be viewed in consideration of Townsville Catholic Education's expectations.

NAPLAN
Individual Student Reports were sent home yesterday. We need to remember that this information is one fraction of all the learning data we examine for each child. The ISR (Individual Student Report) is a point in time snapshot of your child’s academic performance.
As a school, we view group results to identify areas where our programs are effective and those that require further investigation.
If you are concerned or require clarification about your child’s NAPLAN report, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
