Term 3 Week 5 2025
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Term 3 never fails to deliver a jam packed calendar. Next week we will investigate the wonders of science Monday afternoon from 2pm. Tuesday we will take on the characters of some of our favourite books for the Book Week Parade at 8:45am. Wednesday our little ones are off to Billabong Sanctuary to see some of Australia’s wildlife that they are learning about and Thursday we celebrate Mass with our Year 3-5 classes at the Parish and Friday our Interschool Sports is back on. So much is happening and our parents are most welcome to come along to any of these events.
Additional Student Free Days
We have been given some new guidelines with regards to the indicative hours each subject is taught beginning in 2026. Due to this the Townsville Catholic Education office has designated two additional Student Free days- one occurring this year and one next year. The dates are Tuesday, 7th of October, 2025 which is immediately following the King’s Birthday Public Holiday on Monday 6th October and Tuesday 27th of January, 2026 which also immediately follows the Australia Day Public holiday on 26th January 2026. These days will ensure our staff have the curriculum in order going forward. There is also an annual gazetted Student Free Day on Friday 5th September 2025 in which our staff will use to undertake Professional Development.
Nut Free / Nut Aware
Thank you families for recognising that some of our little ones can have a very serious reaction to nuts. The residue on nuts or nut based items alone can make them very sick quickly and we appreciate your support by having nut free lunches while our little ones are learning how to be nut aware.
God Bless,
Lisa Fitzsimmons
Religious Life of the School
Dear families,
Welcome to Week 5!
It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through the term. The weeks ahead are filled with many special moments in our school and parish life, providing wonderful opportunities for prayer, celebration, and community. I’m looking forward to sharing these events with you and walking together in faith as we continue our journey this term.

Thank you to 5B for your beautiful Liturgy on St Mary of the Cross Mackillop.

The Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady – Friday 15 August
Today is the Feast of the Assumption, also known as the Dormition of Mary is celebrated on August 15 and is a Holy Day of Obligation.
The Assumption is the belief that Mary, because of her unique relationship with Jesus, did not experience the normal decay of death but was instead taken directly into heaven.
The Assumption was formally defined as dogma (a doctrine of the Church) by Pope Pius XII in 1950. In the past, many parishes held processions, carrying statues of Mary and celebrating Mass
The Assumption highlights Mary's role in salvation history and offers hope for the faithful that they, too, will one day be united with God in heaven.
Mary is so important to us that we have many prayers and songs that honour her.
Sacramental Masses
This weekend, some of our Year 4 students will celebrate their First Holy Communion and Confirmation. We send them our warmest wishes for this joyful occasion and invite you to keep them in your prayers. May they always know the peace of Jesus, the light of His love, and the joy of His life within them.
All are welcome to join in the celebrations at St Colman’s Church in Home Hill:
Saturday 16th August at 5.30 pm or Sunday 17th August at 9.00 am.

Class Masses
Next week, we begin the first of our three Class Masses for the term. These are special occasions where families are warmly invited to join their children in celebrating Mass. We also come together with the parishioners of our Burdekin Parish, who always enjoy having our students participate in the liturgy.
Class Masses are held on Thursdays at 9.00 am (see table below for dates). We hope to see you there.

Prayer for Our Students
Loving God,
We give thanks for our students who will receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion this weekend.
Fill them with the gifts of Your Holy Spirit — wisdom, understanding, right judgment, courage, knowledge, reverence, and wonder in Your presence.
May they always feel the peace of Jesus in their hearts, the light of His love in their lives, and the joy of living as His disciples.
Bless their families and sponsors, and guide them to walk always in faith, hope, and love.
Amen.
God bless,
Maria

🌟 A Week in the Life of 1A 🌟
It’s been a busy and exciting term in 1A, filled with curiosity, creativity and learning.
In English, we’ve been exploring Australian animals and writing information reports, with the Frill-necked Lizard 🦎 as this week’s focus. Maths has seen us mastering place value and working with numbers up to 120 through hands-on games and activities.
Our Science lessons have been all about light and sound, while in HASS we’ve learned about natural, constructed and managed places, and how to care for them. In RE, we’ve explored the story of Sarah and Abraham, reflecting on values like faith and trust.
Media Arts/Design Technology has had us learning what makes a good photo, practising photography skills, and preparing for a stop-motion clip. In Digital Technology, we’ve been learning how to create Google Slides with images, text, and backgrounds.
We’re looking forward to our Week 7 excursion to the Billabong Sanctuary 🐨🐊🦘 to meet some of our favourite Aussie animals up close!
