Term 3 Week 5 2023
From the Principal
Dear Families,
It is hard to believe that we are halfway through Term 3. Reaching the halfway point of the school term is a significant milestone for students and staff alike and as we approach this period, it is a great time to reflect on our progress, what has been achieved as well as set our sights on the remaining time ahead. Not only has there been significant learning happening in classrooms but we have also celebrated many wonderful events such as Mulkadee, Catholic Education Week, Year 5 camp, had special visitors and so much more. In the second half of the term, Year 6 will be heading off to camp, we will have our final disco for the year and celebrate Under 8’s Day, Book Week and Samaritan Day just to name a few.
At this point of the term, families are encouraged to talk with their child/ren about the progress they have made so far this term and celebrate their achievements. Discuss what learning has happened this term, what areas have they done well in and what have they found challenging. Work with your child to set realistic and achievable goals for the rest of the term. Most importantly, offer support and encouragement to keep them motivated during the second part of the term. If you have any concerns, please remember to reach out to your classroom teacher.
Our teachers will be busy reviewing the progress of the students in their class and making adjustments to cater for the needs of each individual student. They will also continue to motivate and inspire their class before assessing the learning that has happened and offering parent teacher interviews in the last few weeks of the term.
Together we can make the most of the remaining time in the term and work towards achieving not only academic goals but also celebrate many special school events as a community.
Validation
For the past few weeks we have been preparing for our School Validation. Validation is part of the five year school review process to ensure accountability to the Non-State Schools Accreditation Board. An external team led by Ross Horner will visit on Wednesday 16th August to finalise the work that began in 2022. During the Validation Team’s visit we will share our Draft Renewal Plan which sets the school’s strategic direction for the next five years. I look forward to sharing this plan with our school community after feedback from the Validation Team.
Have a wonderful week.
Take care and God Bless
Amanda

Religious Life of the School
The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Next week on August 15, it is the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary which is a central doctrine in the Catholic faith. It teaches that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken up into heaven, both body and soul, at the end of her earthly life. This belief underscores Mary's unique role in the Christian narrative as the Mother of God and highlights her exceptional holiness. The Assumption reflects God's special favour towards Mary and serves as a hopeful reminder of the ultimate resurrection and glorification that awaits all believers. The Catholic Church commemorates this event on the Feast of the Assumption, celebrated every year on August 15th.
Being an important day on the Catholic calendar, there are many celebrations in Italy. From processions of people carrying statues of Mary to a horse race held in Siena.
This artwork, The Assumption of the Virgin, also known as the Frari Assumption, is a famous painting by the Renaissance artist Titian. Created between 1516 and 1518, the artwork is located in the Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari in Venice, Italy. It depicts the Virgin Mary ascending into heaven surrounded by angels. This masterpiece is renowned for its dynamic composition, vivid colours, and realistic portrayal of figures and drapery. The painting remains in the Frari church and stands as an important piece of Venetian Renaissance art.
Thank you to the family and friends who joined us for Mass on the weekend at St Colman’s.
Also, a big thankyou to those who joined one of our St Mary Mackillop celebrations this week, whether it was the liturgy or Christian Meditation. It was lovely to have you there and we look forward to seeing you next time.

In this edition of SchoolTV - GRIEF & LOSS
Grief is a natural response to loss. It might be the loss of a loved one, relationship or even a pet. The more significant the loss, the more intense the grief is likely to be. Children and adults grieve differently due to their developmental stage, and this can prove difficult for parents to understand.
Young children fluctuate in and out of the stages of grief rapidly, as they may not comprehend the permanency death. They express their grief more physically. Teens on the other hand may not know how to express their grief and will need some space to process their loss. Some may choose to grieve alone, not wanting to stand out or be seen as not coping. Whilst others, who may have a greater understanding, can start to question their own mortality.
In this edition of SchoolTV, parents can learn how to acknowledge their child’s feelings and the best way to support them through the grief.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school guidance counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.
