Term 1 Week 6 2022
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
Last Thursday night we held our P&F AGM. As we didn’t get any nominations for President or Vice President the decision was made to dissolve the P&F in its current form and to look at alternative formats for parent engagement. Watch this space for further information.
We have quite a few unwell members of our school community at the moment. There seems to be a range of viruses going around on top of Covid. Please keep your child/ren at home if they are sick. We will be continuing to send any students home that present to the Office unwell. We also have many families going through a tough time at the moment. Some of our families have lost loved ones while others have family members who are seriously unwell. I ask that show patience and compassion towards each other at this time. If you are going through a tough time and need some support or you know of someone who needs support, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Friday is a special day for our school community as we finally get to celebrate the new school year with our Beginning of Year Mass and Induction of Student Leaders. I know our Year 6 students are very excited to be receiving their Senior Badges. Our Mass will be held at 9am in the Samaritan Centre and we invite families to join us. We ask that you please be mindful of social distancing and if you are unwell please don’t attend.
This Friday is the National Day of Action Against Violence and Bullying. This week, classes will be completing activities around the theme for this year “Kindness Culture”. This theme promotes inclusion, respect and community belonging for all students and for our upper school students concentrates on developing a Kindness Culture in an online environment. I encourage you to take some time this week to discuss with your children how they can help create a kindness culture at school, at home and in the wider community.
As we come close to the end of Term 1, teachers will be organising Parent-Teacher Interviews. I encourage you to take up this opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with their class teacher. It is a great way to hear about what areas your child is shining in and where they may need a little extra support.
Have a wonderful week
Take care and God Bless
Amanda
Religious Life of the School
On the third Sunday of Lent, we listen to the parable of the Fig tree (Luke13:1-9). When the owner of the fig tree wants to dig it out because it doesn’t bear any fruit, the gardener asks to look after it for a year and give it a chance to bear fruit. God is like the gardener who is willing to be patient, kind and forgiving waiting for us to respond to his love. If we are kind and forgiving towards each other, showing respect, we will respect each other and our environment, God’s creation.
Project Compassion: Janice 44, is a proud Wagilak woman, a traditional dancer, living in a remote community in the Northern Territory. As elders grow older and pass away, she knows she must share her knowledge with the younger generation. However, the community faces multiple challenges, including a lack of jobs, limited educational opportunities, and socio-economic which can lead to young people becoming disconnected from culture. Caritas Australia supports Djilpin Arts Aboriginal Corporation, which operates a centre for traditional and contemporary Aboriginal arts and culture, providing employment and generating income for local communities. https://www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion/
Beginning School Mass: On Friday we will gather for our beginning school mass to ask God’s blessing on our school community and in particular our Year 6 senior leaders. We pray that all in our community show a love of God and a love of neighbour by following Jesus’ teachings, working with compassion to help those in need. We also ask the Lord that the students will find in staff and parents the face of their neighbour so that they too can go out into the world empowered to create positive change. We welcome Father Manoj to his first school mass with us! Everyone is welcome!
Loving God,
In the life of Jesus, you have shown us the way of love.
Teach us to follow this way in the great and small events of life.
Grant us a spirit of self-denial and greater love this Lent.
Guide us in the way of compassion, to help our brothers and sisters in need.
We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Please email your Certificate of Completion to ayr@tsv.catholic.edu.au to be entered into the draw.

The webinar will commence at 8.30am in the Samaritan Centre. The duration of the online lesson is 45 minutes and will be followed by an activity in the classroom.
Prep - Year 2 students will participate in an activity to focus on how our words can hurt peoples hearts.
